“May Not Be Brand Name, But Just As Effective”

Welcome! As my first post, I thought it would be fun to explain my tagline, “May Not Be Brand Name, But Just As Effective”.

Imagine. Young Eric, a fresh fourth year med student, sitting in outpatient clinic. Our patient. Young and non-insured, they were persistently asking the physician to prescribe them brand name medications. Although we counseled the patient extensively on the comparable efficacies and cost-conscious care, there was no budging in their opinion. After the encounter, my preceptor took me aside and said “Some people just want to feel in control of their health and believe the brand names will be better. Even if they’re just as good”. It made sense and I somehow felt like I related more to the generic medication. Although I might not have graduated top of my class or attended the most prestigious medical school, I feel that I am an equal, empathetic healthcare provider. And I will hustle every day to show it. Somethings may not be ritzy or brand name, but they are just as good and effective.

So folks, ask for generic when you can!
